Part Four
I smile as we reach the Tri-Carrier. Everything seems...better when my brother is around. Our powers are connected after all. When we are together, we are stronger, faster, smarter. My brother seems happier too. But underneath the joy of being together, there is still many a secret being kept.
Walking down the metal lined hall, Jordan regales us with the story of his death. Or at least, his fake death.
“It was a routine job. Find the baddie, fight the baddie, capture the baddie. You know, the usual mission. I was to capture Warlord and send him here. If the mission was a success, then I would join you guys on your team. But that never really happened. What really happened was this:
“I was face to face with Warlord, him kneeling in pain on the floor. Me, well I was standing over him, about to cuff him. That's when he said the three worst words I've ever heard. ‘I’ll kill her.’
“I was frightened. Of course I was! But I didn’t let it show on the outside. He sat there, weak and defeated. But he had the nerve to threaten me! The little..
“Anyways back to the story. I cuffed him, but somehow, someway, he escaped. One second he was there, the next, poof! He was gone. I heard his voice again. Entering my mind. Playing tricks on me. ‘I will kill her. I will kill her right in front of you. Leave here. And never show yourself. If you do, your sister will be left alone.’ That's what he said then. And after that, I disappeared. Acted as if I was dead. I even attended my own funeral. Sad, isn't it…”
I was shocked and fearful of his words. But like Jordan, I wouldn’t let it show. We were emotionless. Always.
“Where are we going, exactly?” Nova asks as we walk down the labyrinth of halls.
“I actually don’t know...for once....” Jess responds in surprise. She had been following the group since we left Brooklyn.
“A path unknown has many secrets.” Danny says, deadly serious. As usual, no one understood him
I point to an open doorway and motion to it. Everyone turns and peeks inside. I do the same. Smiling, I realize almost instantly what room this is.
“The training room.” Jordan groans. Penny punches him lightly on the shoulder and walks in.
“Come on, Sorcerer! I challenge you to a little battle. 1v1. You and me.”
He grumbles about how boring this was gonna be, but says yes anyways. Smiling, I watch as they run to the locker rooms to change into more battle worthy clothes. Penny comes out first. In a cute steampunk inspired outfit, I can tell she is prepared. That’s when my brother decides to step out. He wears a long blue cloak with a set of silver armor underneath. In his right hand he wields a long staff. In the other, a thin black blade.
“I’m ready.” he says, as casual as can be.
Rolling my eyes, I look at Penny. Shockingly, she seems undisturbed by the sword and staff. I on the other hand, am mildly annoyed. Such a showoff.
“Let's just get this over with,” She sighs and steps out onto the court, suddenly bored and annoyed at the same time. He follows suit, though rather reluctantly.
They face off, both of them glaring in determination at each other. Luke steps up as the anonymous referee. He seems like a good choice.
“Let's make this a clean match, alright? No maiming. No dismembering. No murdering...so much paperwork. Got it?” he said, staring pointedly at Aquaria. Sorcerer shrugged while Aquaria nodded.
“Alright. Let’s get this party started! Ready,” Both competitors faced off, shoulders taut with tension, “Set?” Both got into fighting stances, “GO!!”
