Alisa - Day 207 (Why I Like Babies)
Hello!
I'm sure you saw the title and got really excited, didn't you? I know. Babies are awesome - but believe it or not, some people don't like them! Well. Now, you might ask yourself, "How can that be? Babies are so cute, and so... so..." and then you get distracted before ever finishing this sentence. Probably by ice cream or a butterfly. What were we just talking about? That's what I thought. I got you distracted.
But really, everyone, what is it about infants, toddlers, and little kids that just allow us to get wrapped around their little fingers? Obviously they're adorable little cupcakes, but there has to be more to it than that. I mean, I've heard it said that newborn babies look like potatoes. And, to be completely honest, they kind of do. Well, I believe I have the answer. No, not about potatoes! The one about infants. It's one word; kind of long, a whopping nine letters: I-N-N-O-C-E-N-C-E.
Yeah. Probably not what you were expecting. But really, I think this is key. And I want to explain why.
So, have you ever learned something new, and then really wished you that you never knew it? I'm talking, like, the ultimate tmi. Or maybe you've overheard someone talking about something. How about this: you walk into a Wal-Mart just as someone draws a gun and shoots someone else.
Yeah, guys, this is getting serious.
I'm talking about losing your innocence - losing it and never being able to get it back, but innocence, if you look it up, is being not guilty of something, is being free from something, is not knowing something - and so much more. This one word really conveys so much meaning. So, if you walk into that Wal-Mart, perfectly happy, and then see that man get shot - you will never forget this knowledge of death that you have. How could you forget it? You will never be free from this image in your mind, this memory of death and of the horror you saw. I don't want to be super depressing and stuff, but Ithink this is a really good example of losing your innocence and never ever being able to get it back.

I don't want to be super depressing and stuff, but Ithink this is a really good example of losing your innocence and never ever being able to get it back.
So, I guess the way I see it is this: when you're an infant, you literally know nothing because you were just in a womb for nine months. Slowly, you start to lose this angelic innocence, and you become just like everyone else. But for those first few years, you are innocent, and that innocence is one of the most beautiful things. I would argue that innocence is more beautiful than a beautiful landscape or more beautiful than your favorite actor/actress. Because innocence is something you can't ever have back, one you lose it.
One more thing, before I end this madness of thoughts I'm calling a blog post, I hope I haven't come across like I think hen one thing happens BAM all your innocence is gone. Because that's not really true. I think you lose it in small pieces - learning to talk, learning sarcasm, puberty, and the list goes on. I've lost pieces of my innocence that I want back. I know I can't have it, and that is why I love seeing innocence in others.
...This has been deep thoughts with Alisa Pelino.
Peace out.
P.S. Hah, I think I'm going to start doing "P.S."s at the end of all my blog posts. Muahahaha... but anyway. I said peace out! Hahaha... haha... hah... ha. Right. Anyway, they finally named the baby! Her name is Emilia Maria; isn't that so pretty? My heart melted when I heard the name!!! I can't wait to see her again.
