Noelle - Day 274 (New Story!!)

Hello everybody!
So as you probably maybe possibly guessed from the title, I have a new story to share with you guys!  A little backstory:  this is a fan fiction (yes, another one) written by former blogger Alisa and me, and it's a crossover between RMS and Percy Jackson with a little bit of 17th Century thrown in there.  Yeah, I know, it doesn't make much sense.  It was a very random idea.  Let's just say it's more HoO/PJO and less RMS. This is only section one, and I won't be posting more for a little bit because we skipped around a lot and didn't finish the second section yet lol.

I hope you enjoy!!

Random UnNamed Story that Doesn't Make Much Sense but I Wanted to Share It cuz REASONS:

Seagulls cawed.  A wave of salty air washed in, blowing Captain Jessica Willowborn’s white-blonde hair out of her face.  She took a deep breath.  Finally.  A captain in the British navy.

“Morning, Jess,” somebody said behind her.  Samuel Alexson, her first mate and a good friend.

“Sam, you know you have to refer to me as Captain now,” she said, smiling all the same.

He leaned against the ship’s railings next to her and said, “Well, I’ll be one of the few.  They’re not happy about-”

“-having a woman for a commander,” she finished.  She knew.  She had heard the whisperings and snide remarks since she had shown up in London wearing pants instead of a ridiculous fifty pound four-piece £700 skirt.

“Is that-  a woman?!

“Child, don’t look, its that crazed radical girl again.”

“She’s not married?  What kind of strange, witch-ish upbringing is this?”

“It must be her father.  That industrial scientist man.  It’s in her heritage - no wonder she’s disturbed in the head.”

She had tried.  When she had started at the Academy, she had cropped her hair in a man’s haircut; worn a tight corset under her shirt; dressed just like them.  It was no use - the men of the navy Academy couldn’t stand to have a woman in their midst, especially not a woman who could do better and be smarter and fight stronger than them.

Since then, she had given up...ish.  She had let her hair grow out - it was very pretty hair, after all - and tied it back with a string.  Wore a corset normally, with a tight jacket over it.  Wore boots with heels - after all, she was short, and they much improved her kicking abilities.

“Call the men together,” Jess said, fingering the top of her sword, Iris.  “I want to talk to them before we leave port.”

“Yes sir,” Samuel said, and started hollering for the sailors’ attention.

Soon, they were lined up smartly on the main deck, and Jess slid down the ladder so that she was standing in front of them.  A few snickered, but they quickly sobered up at her glare.

“I want you to be completely and totally,” she said loudly, then paused for a moment.  There was dead silence.  “Honest,” she finished.  “If you believe that I should not be your captain, step forward now.”

Four or five of them stepped forward nervously.  The rest shifted, trying not to look guilty.  “You there,” Jess said, pointing to a scrawny lad who had stepped forward at the end of the line.  “What’s your name?”

“A-a-andrew,” the boy stuttered.

“Andrew, tell me, why do you think I shouldn’t be your commander?”  She demanded, glowering at him.  The poor boy was almost a full head shorter than her with her heels, and clearly what Jess lacked in height she made up for in intimidation.

“I- well, I don’t think it's right.  Me mam raised me up telling me that women must stay home, and do womanly things, like cooking and such,” Andrew said, trying not to trip over his words.

“Thank you for being honest,” she said, tipping her hat to him a little.  The boy flushed with happiness and relief.  Jess spun around, catching a big, burly man in the act of snickering behind her back.

“What’s so funny?”  She asked politely.

“Nothing...should I call you ma’am or miss?”

Jessica frowned.  “You could call me Captain,” she said flatly.

“Or else what?  You’ll send me to the kitchen?  I thought that’s where you belonged!  Miss,” the man sneered.  A few of his hulking friends chuckled dully at the joke.

She had Iris out before anybody knew what had happening, sliced a thin cut along the man’s cheek that would most definitely leave a scar, and had sheathed her sword by the time the sailor had reacted.  “Let that be a lesson to you,” she said, keeping her voice calm and smooth.  “That you should respect your commander and never underestimate an opponent.”

“Yes Captain,” he muttered, wiping away blood.

“Any questions?”  She demanded, glancing up and down the line.  There were a scattering of ‘no’s and ‘no Captain’s.  “Then get to work!” She said.  They all scrambled off abruptly, apparently having been properly frightened.
