Noelle - Day 58 (Sug, Take 2)

In case you were wondering,
Sug is just sup.  It's what happens when you get too giggly while Minecraft-messaging friends and decided to just say sup over and over.  I can't type anyway, so sug it is.  It's just kind of an all-around random multi-purpose word.

So today is another break day between the craziness of photo dumping (if you do not have short-term memory loss, you'll remember that I spent about a week just posting photo after photo, including my three day StubieNYC funtimes spree), so I'm thinking R.M.S. parts - what about you?  Of course you are.

I also have a photo, and I think that it's pretty cool - just saying.  I was actually going to do something like this myself, but I never finished it.  What do you guys think.  Should I try it again?
Comment with your ideas!

Random Marvel-based Story (Parts 22, 23 & 24)

Midnight.  A huge bang awoke Iron Fist, making him sit up straight in bed, or rather, the couch, and hope that Jess had accidentally set off one of her bombs.  Dust fell from the ceiling.  He stumbled out of bed, trying to pull on a super suit clumsily in the dark.

BANG!  Another explosion racked the building, shaking Danny to his knees.  Where was Jess?

“C’mon, Danny, do you want to help or sit there like a blind duck,” said a voice coming from the window.  “I know you were just asleep, so I can take this one if you want.”

“Fine,” Danny said groggily.  “Have fun, Jess.”

*******

“Finally!”  Jess said as she ran along rooftops, trying to find the source of the explosions, for the moment that she had jumped out of the window the bangs had stopped.  “A mission all on my own, just me, a bad guy, and a showdown at midnight!”

“And me,” said a voice from her side.

Jess screamed and nearly fell off the building.  “Gah!  How many times do I have to tell you not to do that, Spidey?”

“Um, a lot?”  Spider-man helped her to her feet and they kept running.  “Besides, you could take this guy alone anyway.”

“Oh I couldn’t, could I?”  Jess resisted the urge to punch Spider-man and focused on keeping her footing  “What are we looking at anyway?”

“I’m maybe kinda not quite sure,” Peter said, pulling up an image on his watch-projector.  “I tried to get a clear shot, but the explosions made it a little hard.”

Jess squinted at the projector, nearly ran into a wall, and stopped dead in her tracks.  “I know what that is, and it’s a good thing that we ran into each other - this is way out of your league Spidey.”

“What is it?”  Spider-man ran after Jess, who ignored him.

She pulled out a flip phone from her many-pocketed pants and said into it, “Hey!  Stark, we need back-up.  The Adaptoid is rampaging through Midtown and I can’t use certain-” she paused and looked at Spider-man, who was listening attentively “-skills.”

Silence, then Jess said something in a foreign language that Spider-man didn’t recognize, then put the phone back in her pocket and knelt on the edge of the roof, staring down at the scene of chaos below them.

The Adaptoid was a machine, built by an evil, Stark Industries-hating scientist - Justin Hammer.  “As the name suggests,” Jess said quickly, without looking up, “It adapts.  Anything you do, it can defeat. But-”

“Cool!”  Spider-man said, showing off his inner science-whiz.  “It must have all kinds of adaptive circuitry and empty storage space or else it would never learn all the moves.  Ok, you distract it, and I’ll take it down.”

“What!?  No!”  Jess said angrily.  “I can take this guy, at least until To- the Avengers show up.  Look, it’s never fought me before, it doesn’t know my style of fighting, so it should take a few minutes to adapt.  What you need to do is save that car the Adaptoid just threw.”

Spider-man seemed to take forever to process what Jess was talking about (it was maybe a second and a half in real life, but still!) and jump off to save the people trapped within the unfortunate airborne vehicle.

“Finally,” Jess whispered, “Someone to match me.”

*******

“Modock, the game is up!” Jess said as she jumped from her rooftop.  “Stop hurting those people!”

“Why would I do that?”  Modock was the controller of Adaptoid because of his technopathic powers, but where Modock actually was - that left Jess clueless.  Usually the giant head was nearby the mindless Adaptoid to control it with easy.  Gotta keep him busy until Tony gets here, Jess thought.  He can fix this.

“Because I said so,” Jess answered, feinting an attack and sliding until the Adaptoid’s huge silver legs.  “What do you want Modock?”

The Adaptoid turned around at lightning-quick speed, shrinking slightly to fight her better.  It was already adapting to her fighting style.  “Revenge - after what the Avengers did to me and the Cabal!”

Jess thought back to the last meeting with Modock.  Her eyes widened and she gasped (partly because of surprise, but mostly because of the effort it took to duck under a punch the Adaptoid had thrown).  The Avengers had helped Modock, and the Cabal (a nasty group of supervillains) weren’t even Modock’s friends anymore!  Something was off about this.  “Are you certain about that, technopath?”  She asked, pulling out an old phone.

The Adaptoid already had Stark’s arc reactor technology, and with a speed that was uncanny for a robot, the Adaptoid blasted Jess’s phone right out of her hand.  That was all she needed to know.  With a frown, she attacked, darting under punches and sliding past kicks.  “Why didn’t you just control my phone, Adaptoid?”  Jess said tauntingly.  “There was no need to destroy it!”  No response.

Suddenly, something slammed into her from behind, knocking the wind out of her.  She fell to her knees, gasping for air.  The Adaptoid’s silver fist came into her vision, but she rolled out of the way just in time.  The whole scene was flickering oddly in front of her eyes.  Jess tried to stand, but a heavy foot forced her to the ground again.  Her arms gave way and she collapsed onto her belly - where was Stark?

Something lifted her out of the dust in a bone-crushing grip, squeezing any breath she had left out of her.  Jess opened her eyes, squirming slightly, trying to get free from the Adaptoid’s hand.  It shook her up and down until she felt her body going limp - she felt like a mouse in the mouth of a lion.

Jess opened her eyes enough to see the Adaptoid expressionless face before her, no more than an inch away.  Alright, Jess thought, I may not be able to escape, but I’m not alone here, assuming that Spidey hasn’t bailed out on me.  Tony’s on the way.  This all went through her head in a millisecond and she did the last thing available.  She screamed.

The Adaptoid shook her again, but the damage was done - if there was anyone to help nearby that would do it.  In that moment Jess was already half-way unconscious, but her sharp ears picked up something - a sweet, soft laugh.  Then she slumped over, only awake enough to feel her small frame being slammed into the concrete below.
