Noelle - Day 218 (Something Messy)

Hi!
I just want to post RMS today, if that's okay.  I probably had something smart and intelligent planned for today, but whatever, witty posts are over rated anyway.  At any rate, don't forget to check out yesterday's post!  Yes, very important stuff.  Much awesomeness.  Check it out now.

For those of you who are wondering how "Something Messy" is related to RMS, I've taken to calling the whole RMS fandom group thing Messy Marvel and just be done with it.  Mostly because people were asking me what RMS stood for and I finally realized how stupid "Random Marvel-based Story" sounds so yeah.  Messy Marvel.  Tell you what, I'll put up a poll on G+, okay?  Tell me what you think.

Anyway.  Ahem.

The Survivors (Part 28) {by the way...tell me in the comments if you see grammar mistakes!}

Sam was already at the top of the parking garage by the time Jess had climbed the concrete pillars.  “What took you so long?”  She said sarcastically, then promptly picked the lock of a nearby car.

“Tell me you’re not about to add car-theft to our record.”

Jess laughed and the door swung open.  “Get in, looser, we’re going on a car chase.”

It was common knowledge on the team that Jess did not have her license, but that rarely stopped her from driving JACKIE around town as a hero and it certainly wasn’t going to stop her from driving a car as an outlaw.  “Buckle up,” she demanded.

“Really.”  Sam rolled his eyes.

“Yes really, the last thing we need is to be pulled over because you’re not wearing your seatbelt.”

A siren echoed up to them and before Sam could come up with a witty comeback, Jess pressed the gas pedal to the floor and they were off.

They careened down the ramp ways and screeched right on through the ticket gate.  The sirens got louder.

“Who taught you how to drive?!”  He screamed, clutching the dashboard.

“Hawkeye, why?”  Jess skidded through another turn.  “We’re probably going to need to ditch this car soon anyway.”

Sam glanced behind them and yelled, “We’ve got company!”

“Stop quoting spy movies and tell me how many!”   Jess responded calmly, but her knuckles whitened and the car sped up.

He did a quick count.  “Four police cars and a S.H.I.E.L.D. transport.”

Jess cursed angrily and screeched around another corner.  “Unbuckle!”

“Are you crazy?!  You just made me buckle up!”

“Now!”

Jess flicked her seatbelt out of the way and kicked open Sam’s door, leaving the car driverless.  “C’mon, you idiot,” She screamed over the wailing sirens.  The world turned upside down and before Sam knew what was happening, they were crashing out of the runaway car and out onto the sidewalk, which was surprisingly...soft?  Jess’s eyes were grey and angry, her hands buried in the concrete.  Gunshots rang out.  They bounced off a stone wall that Sam was certain hadn’t been there a moment before hand.  “Get behind me,” she said, her voice surprisingly quiet and steady.

“Jess, what are you doing?”

“You have the backpack, right?”  She said, rising up to a standing position.  The stone around them arched and shielded them.  More guns went off.

“Yeah?”

“There’s a small, silver disk clipped onto the zipper.  Unhook it,” Jess instructed.  Her hand jutted forward, which seemed to do nothing, but a man’s scream echoed half a second later.  Her eyes flashed.

Sam struggled with the fastener for a moment before giving up and ripping the disk off.  Jess pressed a button, whispered something to the little silver gadget, and tossed it over their concrete barricade.  “DUCK!!!”  She called and tackled him.

A sound more powerful than Sam’s ears could understand went off, blasting across the street, knocking them down the sidewalk and shattering windows.  A car alarm bared, but no more shots were fired.  They were safe.
